| Note: the Purple Gallinule (Talève violacée) was found dead on a lawn in Castalia on Feb 27, 2016 and photos were posted on the Grand Manan Birders facebook page. Although it is uncertain how long the bird had been dead, the condition of the body would seem to suggest that the bird probably died a few days or possibly a few weeks before it was discovered. It seems very unlikely that the bird would have died prior to Dec 1, 2015 considering the condition of the body. We had also experienced several storm systems that moved up the east coast with very strong southerly and southwesterly winds in the weeks that preceeded the finding so it is possible the bird arrived on the island during one of those storms. | ||

| Note: Virginia's Warbler (Paruline de Virginia) is not yet officially on the provincial checklist; however, the photographs taken by Gabriel Gallant of a warbler being eaten by a Northern Shrike certainly do appear to be this species and may end up being the first documented record of this species in the province. The record still needs to be reviewed by the NB Bird Records Committee (NBBRC) but I am adding it to the winter list for the time being and if the NBBRC comes to a different conclusion when they review the record, the winter list will be adjusted accordingly.
